About Rachel

A bit about me: I have been driving since I passed my manual driving test in South Africa in 1983, and have worked in various sectors over the years. Some 10 years after teaching my sons, and as your children tend to do, they let me know of a few things that I could do better with my driving. At first you can imagine my dismay, denial, even irritation! I was a normal driver, nothing too bad, just a few bad habits.  But everyone has them, don’t they?!

However, as I reflected, I noticed some tendencies that were a bit naughty. I am grateful for their honesty that helped me review myself and make changes.

I embarked on a self-improvement project and as I worked on myself, I became more aware of skills and options that I could apply to make a positive impact on both me and other road users. I learnt more about defensive driving rather than a blame game, for example. I was filled with a desire to not only make a change with myself but also to help other drivers too.

To this end, I joined an amazing driving school, DRIVE Driving School in 2019. I was training while working several jobs at the same time, which was tricky to be honest. I worked hard with the support and training of my tutors, and despite the impact of COVID times and various life challenges, completed my qualification. I obtaining my full ADI licence on 14/03/2022. I stayed with DRIVE under their school contract till recently and have decided to teach under my own school since June 2025.

I have been teaching people from all walks of life, and ages from younger folk to older more seasoned people. My learners have been drivers from many areas in our global village. I have been helping brand new learners to those who have been full licence holders for many years who need more confidence or for other reasons are seeking guidance and my oldest learner was in their 90s.
